Position title: Academic Clinical Chemist/Clinical Toxicologist
Salary range: The posted UC Salary scales set the minimum pay at the appointment as determined by appointment type and if applicable, rank and/or step. The base pay range for this position is $237,000 – $383,000. Salary is negotiated annually. Additional compensation may be available if the position includes membership in the Health Sciences Compensation Plan. Position description
The position involves a broad range of rotating clinical, administrative, and on-call responsibilities shared with a dedicated team of other qualified MD and PhD faculty. Primary service coverage includes medical and technical supervision of laboratory operations across all sites and providing clinical consultations and diagnostic test interpretations with report sign-outs to treating physicians and other providers. Other duties encompass assisting the section directors with quality and regulatory management, new test development and innovation, analytical instrument/method validations, procedural oversight, and performance improvement initiatives. The teaching of medical students, residents, and fellows is also expected, with a leadership role in a ComACC-accredited clinical chemistry training program for qualified candidates. This academically-rich environment offers exceptional opportunities for translational, developmental, and clinical research collaborations with leading investigators at UC San Diego, several nearby affiliated biomedical institutions, and biotechnology/IVD partners.
The appropriate series and appointment as Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor will be based on the candidate’s background and experience. Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and based on University of California pay scales. Appointments may require candidates to be self-funded.

Qualifications
Basic qualifications (required at time of application)
Candidates with an MD or equivalent must be board-eligible or board-certified by the American Board of Pathology (ABP) in clinical pathology (CP) or anatomic pathology/clinical pathology (AP/CP)
Candidates with a PhD or equivalent only must have or be eligible for California laboratory director licensure in clinical chemistry as determined by the California Department of Public Health.
Candidates with a PhD or equivalent only must be certified or eligible for certification by the American Board of Clinical Chemistry (ABCC) or equivalent.
Candidates with a PhD or equivalent only must have completed a two-year fellowship in a ComACC-accredited training program in clinical chemistry.
Licensed physicians with primary board certification from another ABMS-approved medical specialty other than pathology must have completed an additional 1+ year of fellowship training as required in either an ABP- or ComACC accredited program and with subspecialty board (ABP or ABCC) certification in chemical pathology/clinical chemistry.
