Annual Reviews, an independent, nonprofit scholarly research publisher, seeks an enthusiastic PT, Temporary Writer to work up to 10 hours per week for up to a 4-week period beginning in early October.

Candidates must reside in one of the following states where Annual Reviews is registered to do business: CA, CO, GA, HI, IL, IN, MA, MN, NC, NY, OH, OR, PA, SC, WA, or WI.

Responsibilities include:

• Collaborating with board members, editorial committee members, newsletter subscribers, new partners, and donors (past, current, and prospective) to craft the narrative for the 2024 Impact Report, due in December 2024.
• Conducting interviews with stakeholders to gather insights for the report.
• Reviewing and analyzing proof point data to provide a comprehensive overview of the organization’s programs and initiatives and detailing outcomes and impact.
• Editing and proofreading content to ensure accuracy and adherence to style guidelines.
• Articulating the nonprofit’s mission and goals to inspire reader engagement and support.
• Presenting qualitative and quantitative data to demonstrate effectiveness, explaining success measurement and highlighting partnerships that enhance program impact.
• Detailing the challenges faced, strategies employed to overcome them and sharing success stories, anecdotes and lessons learned that illustrate the organization’s achievements.
• Adhering to the narrative structure outlined in PPT.
• Delivering the copy with proof points and making necessary revisions to finalize the report.

Qualified candidates must have:

• Excellent writing, editing, and proofreading skills, with a strong understanding of communication principles and practices
• Excellent listening and note taking skills
• Strong storytelling and writing abilities
• Solid organizational skills and keen attention to detail
• Proficiency in maintaining an established writing tone to tailor messaging for diverse target audiences
• Ability to analyze data effectively and present it clearly
• A basic proficiency in producing graphs and visual data
• Ability to proactively suggest improvements or explore new angles for storytelling
• A Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Journalism, English or related field strongly preferred

All candidates must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. without the need for employment visa sponsorship now or in the future.

Annual Reviews offers the following benefits for temporary employees in this role: accrued sick time, paid bereavement leave, and jury duty leave.

For the California counties of San Mateo, Santa Clara, San Francisco, Marin, Alameda, & Contra Costa and for New York City:
Minimum of $40.00 per hour
Maximum of $41.50 per hour

For the California counties of San Diego, Santa Barbara, Ventura, Orange, Los Angeles, Riverside, Santa Cruz, Sonoma, Napa, Solano, San Joaquin, Placer, El Dorado and the Washington counties of Pierce and King, and the Denver, CO & Boulder, CO:
Minimum of $36.00 per hour
Maximum of $37.35 per hour

For the California counties of Stanislaus, Fresno, and all other California counties not mentioned above, all other Washington counties not mentioned above, for anywhere else in Colorado (other than the cities of Denver and Boulder) and for the State of Hawaii:
Minimum of $32.80 per hour
Maximum of $34.00 per hour

Actual compensation will be determined by several factors including but not limited to: level of experience, skills, and specific home office location.
