Position Summary

The Supervisor, Safety will partner with all areas of the organization to assist in the development and implementation of effective and progressive safety solutions. The Supervisor, Safety will assist the Director, Safety & Environmental in promoting safety practices and objectives that provide an employee-oriented, high-performance culture that emphasizes empowerment, quality, productivity and standards, goal attainment, and ongoing development of a superior workforce. The Supervisor, Safety be a visible and passionate leader, responsible for the partnership in developing, implementing, measuring and maintaining environmental, health and safety programs.

 

Essential Functions and Duties for Safety

·         Manage, develop, and assist in the oversight of general health, environmental, safety policies and procedures of the organization.

·         Manage, review and update the safety and environmental written programs and update and required.

·         Assist in planning and implementation of safety policies and procedures in compliance with local, state, and federal applicable safety laws, codes, and regulations.

·         Maintain communication with management teams across the organization for safety and environmental needs and activities.

·         Assist in leading Safety and Emergency committees.

·         Manage the accident investigation process to get root causes of incidents and implement preventative action or intervention processes.

·         Manage the SDS program.

·         Manage the DOT/IATA program(s).

·         Conduct regular safety audits and assessments.

·         Supervise administration of disaster preparedness measures.

·         Assist in the planning and execution of annual disaster drills for four (4) distribution center locations.

·         Lead accident and injury investigations and prepare materials and evidence for organizational use during hearings, lawsuits, and insurance investigations.

·         Update and track all hazardous material storage and submit to CUPA on an annual basis.

·         Supervise teams trained in First Aid, CPE and AED.

·         Assist in training and development of training related to safety & environmental topics.

·         Ensure fire extinguishers are checked monthly and annually by outside vendor.

·         Update safety boards as needed.

·         Maintain strict confidentiality regarding all regulatory issues, except as necessary to perform the functions of the position.

·         Represent the company in a professional manner and appearance at all times.

·         Assist in the oversight, leadership, training, and management of Safety Coordinators.

·         Attend educational seminars and webinars on a regular basis.

·         Enforce preventative measures under the direction of the Safety & Environmental Director and HRBP for the location.

·         Prepare and present reports on accidents and violations and determine causes.

·         Monitor workplace repair, installations and any other work that could harm employees’ safety.

·         Act as Emergency Lead for annual fire and disaster drills

·         Educate employees on safety standards and expectations.

·         Conduct ergonomic assessments and respond to ergonomic requests.

Acts as lead-safety professional in the absence of the Safety & Environmental Director.
·         Adheres specifically to all company policies and procedures, Federal and State regulations and laws.

Comply with the policies and procedures stated in the Injury and Illness Prevention Program by always working in a safe manner and immediately reporting any injury, safety hazard, or program violation.
Ensure conduct is consistent with all Compliance Program Policies and procedures when engaging in any activity on behalf of the company. Immediately report any concerns or violations.

Education, Knowledge, Skills and Experience

Required Education:

·         Bachelor’s degree in occupational safety, environmental science, or related disciplines, or four (4) years’ relevant experience in lieu of degree.

·         OSHA 30 certificate, or equivalent certificates (e.g., BCSP, ASSP, NSC, NASP, etc.)

 

Required Knowledge:

·         Knowledge of applicable Federal and State laws.

·         Knowledge of federal, state, and local safety requirements, including OSHA, NFPA, DOT, IATA, and Security.

·         Knowledge of SDS management.

·         Knowledge of safety management principles.

·         Knowledge of safety program management.

·         Knowledge of safety data analytics.

 

 

Preferred Knowledge:

·         Knowledge of Safety Plans and OSHA, DOT/IATA Guidelines and Regulations.

 

Required Experience:

·         At least three (3) years [seven (7) for non-degreed candidates] progressive experience or management in a safety-related role.

·         Experience in clerical work, data entry, data auditing, and report writing.

·         Must have a high level of integrity as proven personally and professionally.

 

Preferred Experience:

·         Experience working in a distribution or manufacturing environment.

·         Working in a health care setting a plus.

 

Required Skills:

·         Must be able to follow processes and complete repetitive tasks.

·         Must be able to learn complex processes quickly and find ways to improvement processes.

·         Must display an excellent attention to details and ability to catch errors.

·         Must have strong ability to research and find solutions.

·         Must have strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications, specifically Excel, and PowerPoint.

·         Must be proficient in creating and editing documents in Microsoft Word and Excel and Adobe Acrobat.

·         Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite. Will need to type 50 wpm.

·         Required to handle a variety of situations and needs in a calm, friendly, efficient manner.

·         Always maintain confidentiality.

·         Must be a motivated, creative, energetic and be able to multi-task projects and priorities.

·         This position will require the candidate to be adaptable, transparent, and a quick learner with the ability to effectively work in a fast-paced environment.

·         Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills, including interfacing and corresponding with multiple levels of management.

·         Must have excellent customer service and organizational skills with a detail-oriented approach to problem-solving.

 

Preferred Skills:

·         Must have strong organizational skills.

·         Sound decision-making abilities.

·         Be detail orientated and the have a proven ability to prioritize work.

·         Be able to work with limited supervision and as part of a team.

 

Professional Certification:

SAFETY certification or equivalent preferred

 

Physical requirements

Vision, hearing, speech, movements requiring the use of wrists, hands and/or fingers. Must have the ability to view a computer screen for long periods and the ability to sit for extended periods. Must have the ability to work the hours and days required to complete the essential functions of the position, as scheduled.  The employee occasionally lifts up to 35 lbs. and occasionally kneels and bends. Must have the ability to travel occasionally. Working condition include normal office setting and warehouse.

Learning, thinking, concentration and the ability to work under pressure, particularly during busy times.   Must be able to pay close attention to detail and be able to work as a member of a team to ensure excellent customer service.  Must have the ability to interact effectively with co-workers and customers, and exercise self-control and diplomacy in customer and employee relations’ situations.  Must have the ability to exercise discretion as well as appropriate judgments when necessary.  Must be proactive in finding solutions
